Day 2 – Tuesday 20th October 2026: Leisurely Mornings and Mining Memories

Take your time waking up to a peaceful morning in Newport, where the pace slows and the city’s charm invites you to unwind. Whether you choose to browse boutique shops, stroll along the scenic riverfront, or simply soak in the tranquil atmosphere, this morning at leisure is the perfect way to recharge and set your own pace for the day ahead.

This afternoon dive into Wales’ rich industrial heritage with an unforgettable visit to the Big Pit National Coal Museum, one of Wales' most iconic industrial attractions. Led by former miners, you’ll descend 300 feet underground into the original coal seams and experience the sights, sounds, and stories of life at the coalface. Above ground, explore interactive exhibitions in the Pithead Baths, the historic winding engine house, and the Mining Galleries - all offering a powerful insight into the people and industry that helped shape a nation.

Day 3 – Wednesday 21st October 2026: Unwinding in the Welsh Capital

Spend a perfect day exploring Cardiff, where rich history meets vibrant modern life. Maybe start at the iconic Cardiff Castle, a striking blend of Roman ruins and Gothic revival architecture nestled right in the heart of the city or wander through the Victorian and Edwardian shopping arcades, filled with independent boutiques and hidden gems. Stroll down Queen Street and The Hayes, buzzing with street performers, high-street brands, and welcoming open-air spaces. For lunch, enjoy waterside dining at one of the many restaurants around St David’s Dewi Sant, one of the UK’s leading retail destinations.

In the afternoon, we head just a short distance to Cardiff Bay - a lively waterfront destination perfect for relaxing and exploring. Enjoy panoramic views across the water, visit the iconic Wales Millennium Centre, or take a gentle walk along the bay trail past the Norwegian Church and Senedd (Welsh Parliament). Whether you choose to unwind with a drink at a harbourside bar, hop on a boat tour, or simply take in the atmosphere, Cardiff Bay offers the perfect end to a day of city discovery.

Day 4 – Thursday 22nd October 2026: Distilling Flavours and Mountain Adventures

Begin your day with a visit to the renowned Penderyn Distillery, Wales’ first and only single malt whisky distillery. Nestled in the stunning Brecon Beacons, Penderyn has been crafting exceptional whisky since 2000, blending traditional methods with innovative techniques. Enjoy a guided tour through the distillation process, learn about its fascinating history, and savour tastings that bring the unique character of Welsh whisky to life.

Come afternoon, enjoy a relaxing lunch at the Pant Station Tearooms, nestled at the foot of the Brecon Mountain Railway. Then, sit back and soak up the scenery on a 9.5-mile return steam train journey through the spectacular Brecon Beacons National Park. Travel alongside the sparkling Taf Fechan Reservoir, through Pontsticill, and up to Torpantau, the highest point of the original railway line. At Pant, browse the gift shop for local souvenirs, visit the steam locomotive workshop, and enjoy a final cup of tea as your day draws to a close.
